Can you die of Alzheimer’s disease?

Alzheimer’s disease mainly affects the brain. The mental confusion arising from the disease does not cause death, but at an advanced stage of the disease, the damage to the brain can lead to problems in other organ systems such as the digestive system, the urogenital system and the immune system. Alzheimer’s patients are susceptible to pulmonary embolisms, infections and other illnesses. Respiratory problems are a particular problem for bedridden patients. The death of an Alzheimer’s patient is usually the result of an accompanying disease.
